Homeless Sleeping Mat Ministry

Homeless Sleeping Mat Ministry is composed of individuals who have a heart for the homeless people in our community. With the support of Eastern Hills Baptist Church, and partnering with Dalriada Global Methodist Church, the group weaves soft sleeping mats using plastic bags.

It takes 2,005 grocery size bags to make one mat. We rely on volunteers with serving hearts to help us with the process of smoothing, folding, cutting and looping  donated bags to weave our mats. 

As of today, July 26, 2023,  we have woven and given out 410 sleeping mats to the homeless in our community. With more volunteers to help with the beginning processes, we are able to deliver more mats.

The groups meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00am until 12:00 noon at Dalraida Global Methodist Church (3817 Atlanta Hwy, Montgomery, AL 36109) to smooth, fold, cut and loop bags. Those that want to weave work in that area of the ministry.

We will do a presentation if you are interested. We have trained five churches to do this locally and outside of Montgomery. We offer training to anyone who is wanting to help with this needed project.
