Reality and Truth Ministries provides the amenities of home to the homeless and needy in downtown Montgomery. This organization offers Bible study, showers, financial management, daily dinner and more to those in need. Through their Clothes Closet, clients are able to choose needed items for free at the store. 

Volunteer assistance is needed at the Clothes Closet and Daily Dinner Monday through Friday from 4:00pm until 6:00pm to help with sorting and organizing donations, assisting clients as they shop and serving dinner. The Brown Bag Bus is The YMCA of Greater Montgomery’s one-of-a-kind initiative to combat the effects of childhood hunger in Montgomery, Alabama. Our Brown Bag Bus is unique and serves an immediate need in our community. Volunteers carry out 90% of the humanitarian work of the Red Cross. Whether you’re a student looking for experience, work fulltime, are retired or have a few extra hours, you can make a REAL difference! Assistance is needed in the following areas:

Caseworker Family Contact - Enter data from newly enlisted service members to ensure that their loved ones can be informed of our services. Work can be done remotely from home or from the Red Cross office.

Operational Shelter Trainee - Assist with opening and staffing an emergency shelter during a disaster.

Operational Health Services Volunteer - Support the affected community in a variety of settings by providing health and functional needs assessments, illness and injury surveillance, replacing lost medications and medical equipment and condolence support.

Duty Officer - Play an important role when Red Cross provides aid to those affected by disasters. They are the first and single point of contact from emergency service organizations when the request for assistance is made.

Volunteer Recognition & Appreciation - Plan and celebrate achievements, encourage fellow volunteers in their work. This virtual position is perfect for someone who likes to work behind the scenes.

This position supports the Regional Volunteer Services department. This is a hybrid position that will require some in-person activities, but the majority will be virtual. The Volunteer Services Engagement Team Member assists in recognizing, thanking, and celebrating volunteers for their impact and contributions to the Red Cross. Assist with planning a implementing appreciation events, like holiday parties. Support Department Recognition and Appreciation activities to ensure recognition is carried out by all lines of service within the Region.

Do you have an active license or certification for RN, LPN/LVN, MD, DO, EMT, PA or Paramedic? If so, the Red Cross needs your help! Volunteers are needed to provide hands on care for shelter clients to include assistance with activities of daily living, wound care, incontinence care and assistance with functional needs. Additionally, participants will provide health education and assessments, replace medications, advocate for client needs and support maternal and child needs.

Volunteers must make a 2 week commitment, be at least 18 years of age, possess a valid driver’s license and be willing and able to volunteer in person at a disaster shelter before, during or after a disaster event.

New Beginnings provides children in grades K through 12th with character-education, consistent homework and project completion, field trips and dinner. Tutors with academic drills strengthen mathematics, English/language arts, science, social studies, writing, critical thinking and character development. Report Cards and Progress Reports are monitored each marking period by our staff to strengthen the areas needing improvement. The Rosa Parks Museum is a state-of-the-art facility depicting events that started the bus boycott and early Civil Rights movement and provides an interactive, multi-media presentation to bring history to life.

The museum is seeking energetic individuals to join their team as Volunteer Docents. Over the past two decades, computer use among older adults has doubled, and 67 percent of seniors are now using the internet according to the Pew Research Center. Despite the growing trend towards a more computer-savvy population, however, many older adults fall behind younger generations when it comes to technology adoption. Family Guidance Center of Alabama is looking for a computer instructor who will teach the basics like how to use a mouse, save files, introduction to Microsoft products, checking and sending emails and Zoom. Ideally, those participating will be available to serve 2 - 3 times weekly.

After driving, walking is the most popular mode of transportation in the United States. However, in many towns, cities and neighborhoods, the only way to get around is by car because walking is just too dangerous. 

AARP Alabama walk audits can help individuals, groups and local leaders assess the walkability of the sidewalks and streets in their neighborhoods, downtown and other locations.

AARP Alabama provides tools and training for individuals of all ages and abilities to conduct walk audits. The organization is currently seeking a team of volunteers interested in conducting walk audits in Montgomery. The audits can generate vital information useful to the city. 

If you're interested in joining a new walk-audit team of volunteers, this opportunity is for you! Walk audits usually take about an hour for the audit, more or less depending on the location, and another hour or more for a final summary session. Walk audit leaders may also assist by creating a report summarizing the findings.  

The Montgomery Area Council On Aging feeds not only seniors but also their PETS! Area youth age 14 and older are invited to spend some time at the center helping bag the pet food in preparation for distribution to MACOA's clients. Those who wish to participate are also more than welcome to pick up the pet food and supplies from the agency and bag at home.

Family Guidance Center of Alabama is seeking highly organized individuals with great interpersonal skills for the position of library volunteer. Library volunteers are responsible for sorting and shelving books according to their category, assisting customers with internet access and ensuring their technical needs are met. They also manage inquiries over the counter, via email or telephone among other duties.

Library Volunteer Responsibilities Include:

• Helping customers locate books.
• Helping customers find material online.
• Checking books in and out at the front desk.
• Sorting and shelving books according to their category.
• Registering new customers and maintaining and updating customer profiles.
• Maintaining records of books taken out and books brought back.

The Family Guidance Center needs your help serving as a Head Start Classroom Volunteer! Head Start is a federal program for preschool children, newborn to age 5, from low-income families. Current and prior Head Start parents and members of the community are welcome. Participants will assist with children's activities, classroom duties, light office help and more.

Meals on Wheels is MACOA's flagship program. Every Monday through Friday, MACOA volunteers deliver hot, nutritious lunchtime meals to homebound seniors who are unable to prepare their own meals. This vital program is a source of much-needed nutrition, provides welcome daily contact with senior clients and serves as a means to regularly check recipients' welfare.

This organization's greatest need is volunteer Meals on Wheels drivers.  MACOA has made a commitment to their Meals on Wheels clients to deliver a hot meal to them every week day.  Food insecurity is a serious issue among 1 in 6 senior adults.  MACOA Meals on Wheels drivers help remedy this issue as well as provide a safety check and combat isolation – visiting clients each day.  A route consists of approximately 10-12 stops and would only take an hour or so to complete.

The ZooTeen program is designed for TEENS ages 13-17 years old that have an interest in animals and wildlife conservation. The Montgomery Zoo's Education Department is looking for teens who want to donate their time to the community and gain experience working with animals and the public. ZooTeens care for animals in the Zoo's education department and assist with animal presentations to school groups, community organizations and birthday parties. Examples of animals in the department are: chinchilla, three banded armadillo, tortoises, owls, hawks, snakes and small birds.

The Elmore County Food Pantry needs volunteers to assist in their warehouse on Wednesday and Friday mornings. The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts Docent Volunteer Program is a year-long program within the Museum’s Education Department that prepares docents to present adult tours, school tours, studio activities, ARTWORKS presentations and outreach programs. Teaching credentials or artistic backgrounds are not required. The Education Department will supply the necessary training that is needed to equip participants to effectively lead tours and deliver other programs for visitors of all ages.

Hospice of Montgomery volunteers are designed to play a vital role in the overall hospice program. Trained volunteers provide assistance with program administration as well as friendship and support to patients and families.

The residents include over 500 animals from five different continents all housed in natural, barrier-free habitats. Women of Refined Gold is seeking a volunteer Case Manager for Women of Refined Gold's Safehaven Transitional Home. This home will provide up to 12 months of housing for single women who are homeless due to domestic violence. The ideal participant will have experience in a related social service field and will be able to commit to 10-15 hours weekly to provide the following: 

Renascence is a residential reentry center that helps non-violent men on probation or parole from the Alabama Department of Corrections make a successful transition to responsible living in a community. Many of the residents struggle to get to work or make appointments due to a lack of transportation. To alleviate this problem, Renascence is seeking 3 to 4 mature males to assist with transporting residents to appointments, services and/or work. Participants will be called upon on an "as needed" basis on weekdays between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm.

The Autauga Creek Improvement Committee strives to provide a natural, scenic and educational recreation experience through ecological conservation and preservation of quality public access to the Autauga Creek Canoe Trail.

Volunteers are needed to assist with bank cleanup and trail construction. Please dress appropriately since you will be clearing brush and picking up trash along the creek banks and in the creek.

You will need to bring bug spray, garden or work gloves and wear sturdy shoes that can get wet. If you have a kayak or canoe, please bring them.

Highland Avenue Elementary is coordinating clean up sessions so the school will be tidy and welcoming to the students after their summer break. The school needs your help with painting hallways, cleaning out closets and moving furniture. Wetumpka Depot Players will accept volunteers serving to fulfill a court ordered requirement for community service.

Reality and Truth Ministries provides the amenities of home to the homeless and needy in downtown Montgomery. This organization offers Bible study, showers, financial management, food and more to those in need. Volunteer assistance is needed at the Daily Dinner every weekday (including holidays!) to help set up, serve and clean up but ESPECIALLY to greet and interact warmly with those in attendance who could really use a smile.

Montgomery Food for Kids Backpack Program is seeking a social media intern to enhance their public awareness efforts and encourage volunteer participation. 

Each week, Food for Kids packs bags with kid friendly, nutritious, non-perishable food for Montgomery's hungry children. Bags are distributed anonymously to students prior to school dismissal on Friday afternoons to ensure participants won't go hungry over the weekend.

The Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail was established by Congress in November, 1966 to commemorate the three marches in 1965 from Selma to Montgomery.

Volunteers are needed to assist the regular professional park staff by helping with projects and assisting visitors. Volunteers perform a wide variety of jobs from maintaining trails to leading guided talks or tours. The time commitment for volunteer work varies from one-day projects to full-time work extending over months or years.

Both individuals and organized groups are welcome to volunteer. Individuals under 18 may volunteer with parental approval.

Second Chance needs volunteers to help tutor their youth in Language Arts, Math, Social Studies and Science. Available days and times include Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am until 12:00 noon.

The 19th Judicial Circuit, which includes Autauga, Chilton, and Elmore counties, is seeking military veterans interested in becoming mentors to veterans participating in the Veterans Treatment Court program. DD-214  and background check are required as part of the application process.

Mentors may be assigned to a particular veteran or provide support across the board.  If assigned to a veteran, the mentor will be expected to provide support to the veteran until he or she graduates from the program, generally within a year.

Mentors stand with the participants during their court reviews and provide support and resources to the veterans to assist them in completing their program. Resource material and on the job training will be provided.

Meals On Wheels needs volunteers to help plate the food in preparation for delivery to their senior home bound clients.

Meals On Wheels is MACOA's popular flagship program. This vital program is a source of much needed nutrition, provides welcome daily contact with the seniors and serves as a means to regularly check recipients' welfare. To older people who cannot prepare meals, this program is a blessing and provides them with a sense of security because of its personal contact.

One Place Family Justice Center, a one stop shop for victims of domestic violence, relies on volunteers to provide assistance in a variety of ways to ensure each day goes smoothly.

The Center is seeking Hospitality Volunteers to greet clients and guide them through the intake process.  Two shifts are available Monday through Friday: 8:00 am - 12:30 pm and 12:30 pm - 5:00 pm.
