Who We Are

Since its establishment in 1994, the mission of WELCOME Food Pantry has been to show love and compassion by providing food and encouragement to individuals in need who reside in west Elmore County. WELCOME is the primary food pantry assistance program for approximately one-half of Elmore County, including Millbrook, Coosada, Elmore, Deatsville, part of Prattville and unincorporated rural areas.  WELCOME is supported by donations from churches, businesses, individuals, civic organizations, and government agencies. The majority of food distributed by WELCOME is procured from the Heart of Alabama Food Bank (HAFB) and Midwest Food Bank, along with food recovery programs from Wal-Mart, Winn-Dixie, Chick-Fil-A and Panera.

Our organization has more than doubled in the number of individuals served each month since the Covid-19 pandemic, from 175 in 2020, to more than 350 families each month today. This increase in families served is due to more families in need seeking assistance, Welcome has not changed its qualifications. In the past three years alone, WELCOME has provided over one million pounds of food to our community.

What We Do

It currently serves more than 350 families each month, benefiting more than 2200 individuals, by distributing more than 45,000 pounds of food and toiletries per month. WELCOME provides food assistance to anyone without regard to any other criteria except residency and poverty. WELCOME also partners with agencies like the United Way, Montgomery Area Council on Aging, and Elmore County Family Resource.

Due to the increased service needs, WELCOME has recently purchased a larger building and is working to fund the renovation of the 8,000 square foot facility and moved in  May 2024. This critical move allowed WELCOME to continue to meet the growing demand for food and expand our ability to provide additional resources to our community.

Our goal is to expand the food assistance services we provide now, and offer a resource for those struggling with food insecurity in our community: a safe place to receive food supplies, internet access, education and employment opportunities and a multitude of other resources.
