Volunteers are needed on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, to support the Community Cooling Center at 3460 Carter Hill Road, Montgomery, AL 36111.

The Cooling Center will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and will provide community members with a safe, air-conditioned place to rest, cool down, and stay hydrated.

Volunteers will help create a welcoming and supportive environment for guests.

  • Depending on the needs of the center, volunteers may assist with:
  • Welcoming and directing guests as they arrive
  • Distributing water and other available refreshments
  • Keeping water and hospitality areas stocked and organized
  • Helping maintain a clean and comfortable rest area
  • Assisting with light setup, cleanup, and general center support
  • Providing friendly, respectful hospitality to community members seeking relief from the heat

Volunteers should be dependable, patient, and comfortable interacting with people from a variety of backgrounds and circumstances. No specialized experience is required.

The Community Cooling Center is a collaborative effort involving The Salvation Army, the Mid-Alabama Coalition for the Homeless (MACH), and Montgomery City/County Emergency Management Agency.

Your time can help make sure our neighbors have a safe and welcoming place to escape the heat.
